British media condemn Obama for golfing on Memorial Day

via moodyeyeview
Can you imagine David Cameron enjoying a round of golf on Remembrance Sunday? It would be inconceivable for the British Prime Minister to do so, and not just because of the usually dire weather at that time of the year. Above all, it would be viewed as an act of extremely bad taste on a day when the nation remembers and mourns her war dead. I can’t imagine the PM even considering it, and I’m sure his advisers would be horrified at the idea. And if the prime minister ever did play golf on such a sacrosanct day he would be given a massive drubbing by the British press, and it would never be repeated.

Tears of Youth Soak Arlington National Cemetery

Each year on Memorial Day I can't help but think of this young girl and those like her who lose their beloved. My deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those lost.
From the New York Times: Mary McHugh visited the grave of her fiancé, Sgt. James J. Regan, who was killed in Iraq in February 2007. He is buried in Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery for those killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

And God Bless America, and our military and veterans, on this Memorial Day Weekend.  LOVE YOU GUYS!

The haunting 5th month abortion of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Julia Holcomb

via lifesitenews
I was told years ago that 95% of post-abortive couples break up. The trauma/sadness/anger is simply too much for a relationship to bear. This is certainly true for Tyler and Holcomb.

The facts are that Tyler, a rock star in his late 20s, took a 15-year-old girl as his girlfriend during the sex, drugs and rock n roll days of the 1970s. Her oddly permissive mother signed over guardianship of her to him, while moving on to yet another marriage. This resulted in a pregnancy that young Julia was eventually convinced to abort, and subsequent real trauma to both parents. Tyler attended the abortion and experienced immediate regret as he watched her give birth to their son, who he claims was born alive and left there to die. "Jesus, what have I done?"

She initially resisted calls to abort the child.  Then a mysterious house fire nearly claimed her life.  While laying on her hospital bed after barely surviving the fire, Tyler badgered her and threatened her with abandonment until she agreed to the abortion. Their relationship broke up anyway.  She suffered much grief and despair after that, eventually joining a church.  She rebuilt her life, attained her GED, married and had seven children.

Bottom line is, this vulnerable girl and baby needed protection, and they got it from no one.

Obama admin threatens to stop air travel in Texas in response to TSA legislation

Thank God for Texas. I was wondering if/when anybody would stand up for the protections of our Constitution. Obama's minions are not taking this lightly.
Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Justice upped the ante in a high-stakes political game of chicken. Lobbying against pending legislation in the Texas legislature which would criminalize any searches conducted without probable cause, U.S. Attorney John E. Murphy sent a letter to a few high-ranking members of Texas’ government warning against promoting the bill and threatening a complete closure of all flights to and from the state.

“If HR [sic] 1937 were enacted, the federal government would likely seek an emergency stay of the statute,” Murphy wrote. “Unless or until such a stay were granted, TSA would likely be required to cancel any flight or series of flights for which it could not ensure the safety of passengers and crew.”

No doubt written with the threatening intent one reads into it, Murphy added: “We urge that you consider the ramifications of this bill before casting your vote.”

Previous to the federal government’s threat, the Texas legislature had considered the ramifications of the bill. More importantly, they were responding to a clear need to uphold the Fourth Amendment and ensure that each person enjoys the right “to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures” — a right which the U.S. Constitution mandates “shall not be violated.”

Netanyahu responds to Code Pink heckler/stalker, full speech vid

With grace and dignity. She is apparently the same San Francisco Code Pinko 20-something who interrupted his speech last night at AIPAC and at other events, per Rush.

On Israeli/American friendship. Even the Dems stood up for the Bin Laden part.

I will continue looking for videos of Netanyahu's address to the joint session of congress to add on here. I heard some clips on the radio and he sounded fabulous. A breath of fresh air compared to the daily Obama speeches we are used to.

Long version.

Volcanic Ash and Global Cooling

AP
As Iceland's Grimsvotn volcano erupts, sending ash high into the atmosphere, my thoughts turn again to global cooling. I remember in particular when Mount Pinatubo erupted. Here in Southern California summer never came. We often have a "June gloom" pattern here where there is a local swirling of air bringing the marine layer clouds inland for the morning hours, causing afternoons to be sunny and cool. This pattern usually ends promptly in July followed by 3 months of unrelenting heat and sun. That summer the clouds came, did not burn off, and continued through the summer.
Last year USA Today pointed out:
The potential eruption of Iceland's volcano Katla would likely send the world, including the USA, into an extended deep freeze.

"When Katla went off in the 1700s, the USA suffered a very cold winter," says Gary Hufford, a scientist with the Alaska Region of the National Weather Service. "To the point, the Mississippi River froze just north of New Orleans and the East Coast, especially New England, had an extremely cold winter.
NASA says Mount Pinatubo cooled the Earth measurably for 2 years:
On June 15, 200 Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines erupted with a tremendous force, ejecting vast amounts of ash and gas high into the atmosphere; so high that the volcano's plume penetrated into the stratosphere. The stratosphere is the layer of atmosphere extending from about 10 km to 50 km (6-30 miles) in altitude. Pinatubo injected about 15 million tons of sulfur dioxide into the stratosphere, where it reacted with water to form a hazy layer of aerosol particles composed primarily of sulfuric acid droplets. Over the course of the next two years strong stratospheric winds spread these aerosol particles around the globe.
Unlike the lower atmosphere (or troposphere, which extends from the surface to roughly 10 km), the stratosphere does not have rain clouds as a mechanism to quickly wash out pollutants. Therefore, a heavy influx of aerosol pollutants, like the plume from Mount Pinatubo, will remain in the stratosphere for years until the processes of chemical reactions and atmospheric circulation can filter them out. In the case of Mount Pinatubo, the result was a measurable cooling of the Earth's surface for a period of almost two years.
All the information you never knew you needed to know.  I might need to pick up a couple more spring cardigans.

Obama and Netanyahu to speak to Israel supporters at #AIPAC2011

@thatgirl_ellie shared on yfrog
At 10am EDT or 7am PDT the video rectangle in the upper right portion of the page in the link below will go live with speeches from the morning session at AIPAC. It is also on CSPAN.  Obama will speak this morning. Twitter is abuzz with people in line at AIPAC and getting double frisked, by the usual AIPAC screeners and the Secret Service.

http://www.aipac.org/pc/

The Washington Post opined:
The president blew it on Thursday. Obama articulated a major shift in U.S. policy at odds with prior administrations and agreements that the United States is party to or helped negotiate. Some have called this “no big deal” or “no big change” from past presidents’ positions. This — to the Israelis, the American Jewish community, and close observers and participants in the peace process — is inaccurate. In fact, the Obama team knew it was a big deal when Secretary of State Hillary Clinton belatedly called Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to explain what Obama was about to spring on him....

In the lack of coordination with our ally and the distinctly pro-Palestinian slant, Obama confirms his distinction as the president least sympathetic to Israel and most disruptive of the peace process.

That was the background to Friday’s extraordinary scene at the White House. A stone-faced Obama with head in hand (disrespectful, if not hostile, body language) listened to Netanyahu correct the record, as a parent or teacher would instruct a misguided or ignorant minor. (One who perhaps doesn’t know what the Knesset is.)...

Soon Obama will enter the room. I suspect many of the attendees share the view of Rep. Theodore E. Deutch (D-Fla.), who put out a statement that read in part: “Should Israel find a partner for peace who is willing to join Prime Minister Netanyahu at the negotiating table, Israel cannot be expected to make any territorial concessions that do not acknowledge the reality on the ground. The 1967 borders are indefensible.”

If Obama had said that, he wouldn’t be in the current fix. The crowd’s reaction (after explicit pleas by AIPAC’s executive director to be courteous, something never before required for a president) and Obama’s comments are a decisive moment for him, the U.S- Israel relationship and the American Jewish community. The high tensions speak volumes about how Obama is perceived by friends of Israel.

It's true. An email was sent out to AIPAC delegates to instruct them to behave courteously to guests at "our house".

Netanyahu: best 7 minutes of the day, in case you missed it

OMG, can you see the pose Obama strikes sitting there? I want the body language expert from Fox to give us the run-down on him. Legs crossed as usual in his hyper-feminine way. Obama's right hand is under his chin, looks like his middle finger is itching to reach out and scratch the side of his face as it usually does. Did you see the index finger sneak out at the end? Left elbow jutting out oddly while he grips the chair arm for dear life. This is the reaction of a fool in the presence of a real man.

Hey, Netanyahu used the word "nadir"! I know what that means, I know what that means!

When it was all said and done, Obama couldn't reach out and shake Netanyahu's hand fast enough. He could not WAIT to be outta there. I wonder why....

"Arab Spring" is all about getting Israel over a barrel

It's bad enough that Israel is surrounded by enemies who wish her destruction. It's bad enough that Obama has called for Israel to give up so much land that her width would be reduced from 45 miles to 8 miles. Now Netanyahu faces criticism from opposition within Israel for not kowtowing properly to Obama in the face of this diplomatic abuse.
Israeli opposition leader Tzipi Livni ripped Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Friday for "harming the relationship" between Israel and the U.S. after Netanyahu slammed President Obama for endorsing Palestinian statehood.
"Netanyahu spoke about consensus, and if there is a consensus in Israel, it's the relationship with the U.S. is essential to Israel, and a prime minister that harms the relationship with the U.S. over something unsubstantial is harming Israel's security and deterrence," Livni told the Jerusalem Post.

I get it. This must be why Obama was all gung ho for Mubarak to be overthrown among other uprisings. Mubarak honored prior peace agreements with Israel. If he is replaced by a radical regime, perhaps one associated with the Muslim Brotherhood and by extension Iranian mullahs, then Israel becomes more dependent on the U.S. than ever due to the real threat of war. Sensing Israel's worry, Obama of course steps in and takes advantage of her, advocating a return to pre-1967 borders, which would gut the small country of so much land as to make it impossible to defend her citizens. People who hate Israel think this would be a wonderful thing.

Thank goodness that Israelis had the good sense to elect Netanyahu after we elected Obama. They knew they would need his strength to see them through trying times and indeed they do.

I pray for the health and safety for all Israelis and urge them to remember what the Sinai Peninsula land-for-peace deal bought them. Temporary peace.

Thank you, Obama, for changing our nation.

via truegritpatriots
We have changed in so many ways in the past two years.

I remember when Americans would yawn and run in the other direction when somebody brought up the topic of the national debt ceiling. No more. A vast majority of Americans are paying close attention to this issue. And I wager that the voting on this issue will have great sway in the way Americans will vote in 2012. Politicians who decide to sell out our nation's future so they don't have to deal with problems today will feel our wrath. They can laugh all the way to the unemployment line.

I remember when Americans believed that terrorism was caused by a few violent extremists, who misunderstood and perverted the religion of islam. Not so. Islamic moderates, those who are yet un-murdered by their muslim brethren, are the ones who misinterpret the Koran. Mohammed clearly states that war will be made on unbelievers unto the end of time or when islam rules all. We are fooled by taqiya (lying) no more. The 19 hijackers perfectly represented their religion. As much as it would be nice to believe otherwise. We ignore this information at our peril, as the buddhists of Thailand now know. Babies and children beheaded for being buddhist? Par for the course.

I remember when Americans thought that Israel had problems with Palestinians because they had not made enough land deals such as "land for peace". This could not be more wrong. Muslims hate Israelis because they exist. They hate all non-muslims because we exist. Giving more land to them simply weakens our defenses against them. An outcome that they favor, of course. And unwise.

I remember when Americans frowned when entering the voting booth and meekly voted for the lesser of two evils because "that's how politics works". Well no more. We must take this country back in hand. We must re-strengthen the Constitution or we will have no protection from tyranny. Our forefathers gave us a system to protect us. But only if we can keep it.

Thank you, Obama. Your breakneck attack against America, highlighted by Obamacare, an entitlement program that would weigh down an overloaded expense equation and bankrupt this nation quicker than Social Security and Medicare are already doing, woke us out of our slumber. With any luck, we will reverse the destructive course you have set for us.

Thank you, Obama. You offended our friends and cozied up to our enemies. You woke us up to the need to create our own brand of foreign diplomacy, which we do every day on the internet. Our friends know they have friends here, no thanks to you.

Thank you, Obama. You declared September 11th to be a day of national volunteerism or some such nonsense. The good people of America already do a LOT of volunteering, and we don't need you to show us how. And we also don't need you distracting us from a solemn day of remembrance of our dead and the MUSLIMS WHO DID IT.

UPDATE: Russell WINS against flood, Moat WORKS! Many thanks to all who helped to save his home from flood

The water is gone now. What a great group of people. They saved his HOUSE and YARD!

50-year-old Russell Petty is a resourceful man with a lot of good friends. And it looks like he may end up keeping his house. A house that should be halfway filled up with muddy water right about now.

Before the flooding arrived in earnest, a neighbor documented the moat construction. Interesting to me was that the sandbags were originally stacked right up around the house, but were later moved to support the levee. I'd put my money on the levee, too, as he is able to pump out the water from behind it. I love American ingenuity!

The Fox News story on this has a bunch of comments referring to Obama's wisecrack about moats and alligators. Do you think he stepped on a lot of toes with that one?

Casey Anthony up for death penalty, abortion moms no problem

It makes me shake my head. We hang on to details of little Caylee Anthony's murder, allegedly at the hands of her mother, but when babies are torn limb from limb in the womb, society turns a blind eye. Both so-called mothers don't want to be bothered nurturing their children. Casey Anthony callously partied the night away after her baby girl "disappeared". Abortion moms are free to party on as well. Shame on anyone who hurts a child. Shame on everyone who turns a blind eye.

Sen. Inhofe describes pictures of Osama Bin Laden death photos

Senator Jim Inhofe (Oklahoma-R) viewed pictures of Osama Bin Laden dead at his compound and on board ship at the U.S.S. Vincent before burial at sea. The Senator describes how the bullet pierced the eye and ear on the same side, allowing some internal contents of the head to escape through the hole near the eye. Osama appeared to be wearing only underwear at the time of his death.

Royal bridesmaid 3-y-o Grace Van Cutsem can't take the noise

via msnbc
via audilab
Adorable baby. That's what is so great about kids. They can't help but be themselves. She is being criticized as the "grumpy" bridesmaid, but I think that is unfair. This pic was taken not long after a loud flyover. And the cheering surged with each royal kiss.

I was always the little girl with my hands over my ears as well, so I sympathize. It was only in the last few years that I discovered that my left ear has paralyzed middle ear muscles. That means that loud noises, which are usually dampened by the tightening of these muscles, cause excruciating pain for me, and also cause hearing damage. Count me as a Van Cutsem fan. I think she is adorable and adds a note of realism to an otherwise well-scripted day.

Muslim shouts "Allahu Akbar" rushing cockpit in SF flight, authorities stumped as to motive

Is Fort Hood shooting listed as terrorism?
Why was this not mentioned in initial news reports? A YEMENI man screams ALLAHU AKBAR and rushes a cockpit. I hear the other passengers were TERRIFIED.  Terrorism, anyone?
Almurisi went toward the cockpit door 30 minutes before the flight from Chicago was supposed to land on Sunday night, San Francisco airport police Sgt. Michael Rodriguez said. Almurisi was yelling unintelligibly as he brushed past a flight attendant.
Marty, 35, recalled that she and other passengers on the plane were stunned when they saw Almurisi walking down the aisle. She said a woman in a row across from her who speaks Arabic translated that Almurisi said "God is Great!" in Arabic.
Andrew Wai, another passenger, told KGO-TV on Monday that the wife of one of the men who took Almurisi down later said Almurisi was yelling "Allahu Akbar."
"There was no question in everybody's mind that he was going to do something," Marty said.
A male flight attendant tackled Almurisi, and other crew members and passengers, including a retired Secret Service agent and a retired San Mateo police officer, helped subdue him as he banged on the door, police said. The flight attendant put plastic handcuffs on him.

Behar accuses Bin Laden of living the life of Hugh Hefner

He had received the "gift" of a teenage bride. Good point. It didn't take me long to do the math. The news report said his youngest wife was in her mid-twenties and her oldest child was in the room that night and the girl was over the age of ten. Hmmm.

Hero Dog Helped Catch Osama

via jocosarblog
Aww, sweet! And I thought that the Navy Seals would get a recruiting boost before. One look at these adorable pooches and prospective Seals will come running!
A FEARLESS four-legged recruit joined US Special Forces as they stormed Osama Bin Laden's secret lair.
The explosive-sniffing dog was strapped to an assault team member as they took on one of their greatest challenges to date.
He was part of the operation in which the elite US Navy Seals lowered themselves down ropes from three Black Hawk helicopters into the terrorist supremo's hideout in the town of Abbottabad, Pakistan, on Sunday.
The world's most wanted man, 54, was shot dead by a Special Forces marksman during the raid.
Heavily armoured hounds — equipped with infrared night-sight cameras — have been used in the past by the top-secret unit.
The war dogs wear ballistic body armour that is said to withstand damage from single and double-edged knives, as well as protective gear which shields them from shrapnel and gunfire.

The lie of moral equivalence

via baynews9
Some will say that Americans celebrating Osama Bin Laden's destruction are as bad as the dancing Palestinians of 9/11/2001. We know this is not true. Celebrating the end of a mass murderer of innocent civilians is quite different from celebrating the murder of innocents. The same people danced and passed out candy in the streets after 9/11 and after the Fogel family murders.

Please be on the lookout for news stories that try to claim moral equivalence in the middle east. A bomb sent to destroy a school bus is very much different from a bomb sent into a terrorist's hideout, or when a terrorist's home is bulldozed, after warnings are sent to the women and children to depart. Very much different and not the tit-for-tat scenario that many news outlets try to paint.

Here is an assignment.  Please tell me how the India/Pakistan conflict is even-sided.  Are India and Pakistan morally equivalent?  Or is one country trying to force the other to submit.  Submit to Islam, perhaps?  Is one country instigating terror against the other?  After finding Pakistan hiding Osama Bin Laden, there may be a reason why Indians are nodding their heads and quietly saying, "we told you so."
